America’s Cup yachts

Columbia vs. Shamrock in the year 1899

The America’s Cup is the oldest trophy to win in international sport. Since 1851, the trophy is awarded to the winner of the America’s Cup match races between two sailing yachts. One yacht, the defender, represents the yacht club that holds the America’s Cup. The second yacht is known as the challenger and will be challenging for the cup. As “there is no second”, as said to Her Majesty Queen Victoria by her attendant, the cup represents the singular pursuit of excellence, and attracts not only the world’s top sailors and famous yacht designers but also the involvement of wealthy entrepreneurs and sponsors.
